American beauty company AbbVie acquires Israeli Luminera for dermal filling products

Allergan Beauty Company, a subsidiary of AbbVie, has signed an agreement to acquire Israel’s Luminera, a privately-owned beauty company that develops dermal filler products.
The American company said in a statement that under the terms of the agreement, Allergan Beauty will acquire Luminera’s complete dermal filler portfolio and R&D pipeline, which will complement Allergan’s existing beauticians Dermal filler combination. No financial details were disclosed, but the Globes financial website estimated that the transaction was worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
Luminera was founded in 2013 and is headquartered in Lord, Israel. It is a manufacturer and R&D company of injection medical devices in the field of aesthetic medicine. The company’s website states that its calcium hydroxyapatite filler can stimulate the production of natural collagen fibers in the body and increase the volume of the skin for up to two years.
Hyaluronic acid is known for its ability to retain water and help deliver important nutrients to skin tissues. According to the website, age causes the natural degradation of hyaluronic acid in the body, and hyaluronic acid products can help restore the smoothness and luster of the skin.
Luminera’s main product is HarmonyCa, an innovative facial dermal filler that combines cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) with embedded calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) microspheres. HAmonyCa is currently available in Israel and Brazil. The statement stated that Allergan Aesthetics will continue to develop Luminera products for its international and American markets.
